This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Dr. Eleanor (Elle) Parker, a behavioural veterinarian and founder of Pawly Understood, South Australia's only dedicated behaviour-focused veterinary clinic.
From our very first conversation, Dr. Elle’s passion for compassionate, evidence-based care was clear. With a team of 10+ vets and pet trainers, Dr Eleanor’s clinic provides a holistic model—where both medical and behavioural needs are met in every consult.
“In every initial consultation,” Elle explains, “we pair a vet with a behaviour trainer to support the full journey of care.”
Like many growing clinics, Elle and her team face common challenges as their practice evolves—managing staff, handling high volumes of client enquiries, and most importantly, keeping clients engaged and accountable after their visit.
Client accountability and visibility into the recovery process remain big hurdles. Elle shares, “We often see pet owners come in expecting quick fixes. But behaviour change takes time, consistency, and active participation.”
“We already ask clients to monitor frequency, intensity, and duration of behaviours like barking or house soiling,” Elle says. “But most struggle to keep it up. If we could track this data digitally such as mood tracking and visual trends summaries—we’d get better insights, and clients would feel more supported.”
